NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Aug. 1, 2005 – Conexant Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: CNXT), a worldwide leader in semiconductor solutions for broadband communications, enterprise networks and the digital home, today announced that Netopia, Inc. (NTPA.pk), a market leader in broadband gateways and service delivery software, has selected the company’s Accelity VDSL/VDSL2 customer premises equipment (CPE) chipset for its new MiAVo 3396PC-VGx VDSL gateway. Netopia’s “media in, audio and video out” gateway is targeted at IP-based networks that use high-speed VDSL technology in the last mile to deliver triple-play voice, video and data broadband services. Subscribers can then use the MiAVo gateway to route content to various devices on their local area network (LAN).
Accelity chipsets provide operators and manufacturers with the lowest total system cost available today. Conexant is the only semiconductor provider to deliver production quantities of VDSL chipsets that comply with the recently consented VDSL2 standard. “We are pleased to extend our long-term relationship with Netopia, and work with them on this exciting new VDSL product launch,” said Akram Atallah, vice president and general manager of Conexant’s Broadband Access business. “Further, this collaboration underscores our joint dedication to developing technology-driven solutions for next-generation, high-speed broadband networks.” “Conexant consistently delivers leading-edge semiconductor solutions, backed by top-notch service and support, that allow us to launch innovative products such as our new MiAVo gateway,” said Jeff Porter, vice president of product marketing for Netopia. “They have earned our trust, and we look forward to working with them on future products.” Conexant’s Accelity chipsets are targeted at triple-play broadband service deployments, remote terminal and fiber extension applications. The company’s VDSL/VDSL2 CPE solutions can be used in broadband residential gateways, modems, Ethernet bridges/routers, wireless local area networks, and integrated access devices (IADs). Solutions for central office (CO) applications that offer full-rate DSL performance and provide density, cost, power, and functionality benefits are also available. Netopia's MiAVo 3396PC-VGx gateway includes a 4-port wired 10/100 Ethernet switch that allows users to cost-effectively connect devices such as IPTV set-top boxes to a LAN. The gateway delivers up to 100 megabytes (MB) of bandwidth on VDSL2 networks, and includes Netopia’s VGx quality of service (QoS) technology and TR-069 remote management functionally to ensure the successful delivery of triple-play services. Conexant has shipped more than 130 million DSL ports to customers worldwide. The company’s CO and CPE semiconductor solutions include a full range of standards-based integrated circuits, software and reference designs for asymmetric and symmetric DSL applications. Additional products include a highly integrated, multi-application CO network processor for the next-generation of intelligent DSL access equipment.
